January 28, 2021 – Solimar Systems, Inc., provider of leading workflow solutions for print production and digital communications, delivered tangible cost savings and a flexible post-composition solution to VariVerge LLC, as part of the company’s latest print production investment.
VariVerge required a workflow solution for their print environment that would be compatible with its new and existing print production technology, while providing additional cost savings. After selecting Solimar and implementing their modular Chemistry™ workflow solution, VariVerge estimates they have saved $100,000 in labor and development time. That expense would have been required if a custom post-composition solution had been built that incorporated the company’s exacting needs and delivered the added value that the Solimar solution provided.
VariVerge, a Texas-based Print Service Provider (PSP) specializing in variable data, transactional print and mail processing, acquired a new high-speed continuous feed SCREEN Truepress Jet520NX inkjet full-color printing press. The new technology brought increased productivity to the company’s operations but VariVerge needed a new, flexible print production workflow that would align them to the PDF file format, enhance operational efficiencies and increase cost savings. The combination of Solimar® Print Director™ Enterprise (SPDE) and Rubika® proved to be the optimum workflow solution to meet these objectives.
“We insert about 6 million [print and mail] pieces annually, working across a variety of industries including medical, financial, insurance, utility, state and local government,” Luke Austin, Vice President/CEO of VariVerge LLC, explains. “As such, our goal was to become as flexible and agile as possible while maintaining our high standards for managing client information and ensuring data security. We wanted to produce any job on either a cut sheet or a continuous feed inkjet device without any extra reprocessing time, without added resources or expense. Based on our research we knew Solimar was the ideal solution to meet these crucial requirements.”
“Through our strong partnership with SCREEN USA, our team at Solimar was recommended to VariVerge to help them leverage their new investment in the SCREEN Truepress Jet520NX digital inkjet print production press,” Mary Ann Rowan, Chief Experience Officer of Solimar Systems, explains. “With our 30-year history in variable and high-speed printing workflow software, we were able to listen to the needs of Luke and his team and put together a tailored and scalable solution to meet their business goals.”
The combination of SPDE and Rubika enabled VariVerge to maintain a single universal workflow that seamlessly supports their entire print environment. The company can now accept and output different data stream types, including PDF, to ensure client jobs are completed on their print devices without delays. The new solution also enabled VariVerge to convert their current print streams to PDF and enhance the data stream with added 2D barcodes and overlay images on their documents.
The SPDE solution provided the needed flexibility to connect their host computers to devices and systems that, under normal circumstances, cannot interface with each other. SPDE also ingests data streams and dynamically converts them into new, optimized print streams such as PDF for the target output destinations.
In addition, Rubika provides unique post-composition document re-engineering capabilities, enabling VariVerge to eliminate manual processes, add value to documents, and increase the quality of print and mail data.
“Early on, we saw the power and flexibility of this solution from an automation perspective. We liked the strong features and its modularity, but most of all we appreciated the simplicity and how easy it was to set up and operate. As we grow, we can add new functionality with extra modules when we discover new incoming client work that dictates it,” said Austin.
Unlike other software solutions that rely on custom programming, Rubika requires no complicated coding. Instead, it provides an intuitive user interface to allow rapid implementation of post-composition print production changes. Rubika is used to solve a variety of challenges and can be configured in several different ways to increase efficiencies and profitability – avoiding custom programming and providing additional cost savings.
“We estimate that we saved well over $100,000 with Solimar. By not having to develop a separate workflow for our new inkjet press we avoided a very significant engineering effort and, in the process, a lot of dollars. This can now be redirected elsewhere thanks to Solimar and the flexibility of their products,” said Austin.
